A drop or hanging scaffold is used for the following purposes:

· To gain access to areas that is over water.

· To gain access to areas where there is a roof in the way

· To gain access in factories where there is equipment underneath and the scaffold can be built from roof beams.

· These scaffolds require a design and an engineer to sign off.

· This is a scaffold that is suspended from buildings, cranes on sides of shipping vessels etc.

· This can range from tower, birdcages and independent scaffolds

· These type of scaffolds are done if there is no wat to build a scaffold from the ground up
